"Open Season is another in the long line of recent ho-hum animated kid's movies. It is perfectly entertaining, the animation is good, the story is simple. You've seen the story before (or at least it feels like it): Nature versus Man, Personal Growth, the Sensible main character thrown for a twist who picks up a Colorful Sidekick. There are some very good scenes and some quite funny moments, then there are long slow parts. The surprise is Ashton Kutcher's voice work for a Elliot the wacky sidekick which was pretty good. Martin Lawrence displayed gentle insousance as Boog the Bear, however, I couldn't help but long for Eddie Murphy's madness. Overall a pleasant diversion but that's about it."
"This movie is very entertaining to watch on a regular DVD but the experience is very much enhanced with the Blu-Ray Disk. The video is stunning and the audio is very good. I enjoyed seeing Ashton Kutcher in a dramatic role for a change. He is still very funny in the outtakes."
"While watching this, I realized something. You know you're getting older when everything you see starts reminding you of something you've seen before, that you liked a lot better.
At best, this film is basically a half-assed 'Say Anything' knock-off. At worst, you'll want to hang yourself watch Peete and Kutcher try and 'out-cute' one another. The truth, however, always seems to be somewhere in the middle.
Myself ... I'll take Lloyd Dobler and Diane Court any day over this fluff."
"First let me say...we bought the Playstation 3 not only for the games, but for the Blu-Ray technology. (Or at least that is how my husband sold me on it) and I have to say...LOVE the look of Blu Ray.
That said...On to the review-I enjoyed the movie. It was nice to see Kevin Costner back on screen, and I was impressed with Ashton Kutcher. I really enjoyed Kutcher in 'The Butterfly Effect, ' he had stronger acting chops than I would have given him credit for, and he showed them here. The story was predictable, but at the ending still had me welling up a bit.
All in all....fun Friday night date movie."
"'Down To You' is a romantic comedy-drama unlike any other, combining the two kings of romatic comedies Freddie Prinze Jr. and Julia Stiles. After I saw '10 Things I Hate About You', and got it on DVD, it was at that point I thought Julia Stiles could not get any better. But she did. Julia delivers a bang up performance that will bring you to tears in certain scenes, as near the end she exercizes her remarkable ability to make herself cry. And Freddie Prinze Jr. delivers a performance typical of his other movies that girls find irresistible. The whole point is, this is another example of a drama being sold as a comedy, because this most certainly is a drama. Sure, some things were funny, but this truly is a drama that you will never forget.Watch this movie!"
