"These four movies are the first four books written by C.S.Lewis. No they do not have massive special effects, no they are not going to equal the massive epicness of Lord of the Rings. But they have something that the new version of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe lacks: emotions. The BBC version of the books more accuratly follows the story, and actually manages to bring the emotions in the book to life. It has a wonderful story, for either your religious or not religious aspects.
If your after vibrant special effects, current hollywood standards, or a short movie, then no: The BBC version is not for you. But if your after an accurate story, envoking real human emotions and portrals of children who should be mentors and examples to your own, then this is the box set for you."
"This movie is NOT a movie version of a book. It is the movie version of a Radio Series. The book came 2nd. Things that happen in the book do not necceserily mean anything. Every media H2G2 has been in, is a compleatly different version of the events.
YOu should also keep in mind, that the more drastic changes have been writen by Douglas Adams himself before he died. He DID actually work on this film in preproduction, even if his involvement was tragically cut short.
In the end, this movie does not tell the stories of Arthur, Ford, Trillian, The Heart of Gold, Marvin, 42, or even the whale. This movie, like all of it's other counterparts, tell the story of The Guide. The rest, is just details."
"This movie died at every possible opportunity. It starts off with dropping the biggest joke in adams' career with ford prefect tricking the demolition crew into not tearing down arthur's house. The original demonstrates political bureaucracy and irony, as well as human gullibility, whereas this movie, ford just bribes the crew with a few beers then leaves with arthur. The movie is nothing like the book, the tv series (made into a movie, rather cheaply made but well done). Everything in this movie past the first three minutes is nothing like the original. I can see why they waited for adams to die before releasing it in the theaters.
this movie will make any more-than-casual fan of adams vomit in disgust. Not even worth a free rental! you've been warned."
Star Wars Ewok Adventures - Caravan of Courage / The Battle for Endor
"Reading through all these people bashing these movies has me shaking my head. Really what can you expect out of television movies about ewoks? to criticize these movies as being too childish is like criticizing the smurfs for being blue.
these movies were made for kids and not the people like me who saw the original star wars movies in the theater as a kid but are now in their 30s. really though to be able to get two movies on dvd for about half the price of a tank of gas to me sounds like an okay deal. People really should lighten up and take into account the audience these tv movies were made for.
one bright spot in these movies are some quite ambitious special effects (for tv at least)."
